About

A multidisciplinary path through people, systems, and change

Farhad H. Mehraban began his academic path in Industrial Engineering in 2003, completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and developing an early interest in systems theory and the logic of complex structures. He later completed a PhD in Management Science at King’s College London in 2014, where his attention gradually shifted from systems themselves to the people within them; how decisions are made, how knowledge is created and shared, and how relationships sustain organisations over time.

After several years working in management consulting, he returned to academic study, this time in psychology, completing further university training before undertaking specialist training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) with Dr Nima Ghorbani. The settings changed, but the underlying question remained remarkably consistent: how do people, consciously and unconsciously, make sense of themselves, their relationships, and the systems in which they live and work?

Years spent in organisational settings revealed patterns that he would later recognise in the therapy room. Both individuals and organisations can protect themselves from feelings and realities that are difficult to tolerate. In an individual, this may appear as resistance or avoidance of emotion. In organisations, similar processes can become embedded in what is described as culture, realism, strategy, or simply “the way things are done.” Exploring this structural similarity has become an important thread connecting his clinical and organisational work.

Today, his work spans psychodynamic psychotherapy, organisational psychology, management consulting, and university teaching. Across these different contexts, his interest remains the same: understanding the patterns that shape how people think, feel, relate, and organise themselves, and what becomes possible when those patterns can be seen more clearly.
